Oh you again, Joan! I think last time you wrote something like this I suggested you stop reading my Substack? But I’m sorry you missed my Substack about my breakthrough! I wrote about how frustrated I was because teaching and family obligations were taking up so much time I feared I was going to miss my personal deadline for my revisions. Then I gave very clear advice on what worked for me to make that time and how I executed that plan to finish. And surely you know that it takes a year for a book to be fpuished after it’s finished!
While I was “having fun with friends” I was codirecting and teaching a workshop. Apologies for having a balanced life with love, food, travel, and lots and lots of hard work. I wish the same for you.
I'm not sure I've ever seen a photograph look as squishy and soft as that HHF yarn! Absolutely gorgeous. If it were me I'd find a fun pair of fingerless gloves to knit, but I do have chronically cold hands 😂
We visited Colombia this March despite the Level 3 warning from the State Department and had the time of our lives. Your travel posts are truly inspiring! Have the grandest time! Also - I’m reading THE HEART’S INVISIBLE FURIES which is beautifully written and takes place in Dublin if you need a book (almost certainly not but just in case…)
Thank you, Joanne. I love John Boyne—great recommendation! We are both gobbling up some Sebastian Barry novels we got at a lovely used bookshop/wine bar in Kinsale.
Ann! Like Kathy said, you buried the lede! Happy Pub Day. We have a grandboy now so I’m off to buy it for him. And thanks for permission to daydream. I’ll choose the window since laying on grass here on tick island is ill-advised. Link to purchase Piggy: https://bookshop.org/a/82356/9798217051052
Ugh! The ticks! And now there’s the Lone Star tick whose bite makes people allergic to meat and/or dairy that I heard about on Martha’s Vineyard last summer…
I can’t wait to see what you make. I finished the scarf I was knitting on the flight home. I decided to give it to Ellen O, because it matched her ensemble. I still have time to make another scarf for my friend‘s birthday. Enjoy the rest of your trip. It was a bit of a shock to the system to come back to JFK.
Ann, you buried the lede! Congrats on Piggy. I think my lovely four-year-old granddaughter in New Zealand will love it. To dreaming: I think it's a shame when writers are encouraged to WRITE EVERY DAY and never encouraged to let their brains and fingertips lie fallow. We were in Tucson for six weeks this winter. I was 30k words into writing my third book when we arrived, and when we left, I was 30k words into writing my third book. I discovered, looking at the lovely heated lap pool in our backyard, that what I needed to do was swim laps and think. I let the story inhabit me. For six weeks. And when I came home to my writing table, it tumbled out. So bravo to leaving your laptop at home. Looking forward to hearing about the Balkans. Travel wildly ... and safely.

It really is as squishy and soft as it looks! And what a great idea for knitting with it.

CONGRATULATIONS on Piggy!!! ❤️
I’m with you! My favourite way to travel is to get off the beaten path. Have a great time!
I love reading your posts. So inspiring and so real.
Very excited to be in the newsletter, BTW.

Thanks for link!
It’s like a horror movie in paradise, with tiny invisible monsters. We are looking forward to seeing Sam later this summer, though!

What a wonderful story, Kathy. Yes! It does tumble out!
