I love your description of the beach -- Coppertone, popsicles, neon. I'd add: Laura Branigan's voice coming from my battery-operated radio. I miss the allure of a small radio...
I know. We live in a low key beach neighborhood in Santa Barbara (Harry and Meghan are not neighbors) where my parents bought a little beatnik house in 1961. But now we have some upscale neighbors and the couple next to us (who are really nice) threw a party a year ago and the band started rehearsing early in the morning. My husband was complaining about the lousy Beach Boys imitation band and I said, “No, they're really good.” So he peered over the fence and said “It is the Beach Boys!”
That's great. I was imagining everyone showing up in Andy Warhol attitude and doing a Lou Reed. I've never been able to get rid of my mental clichés about New Yorkers even after living in the Village for years.
Laura Branigan makes me feel more like sweaty dancing in a club than putting on Coppertone at the beach. Didn't she do the backup angelic choir for Leonard Cohen on one of his tours? That was always a dream of mine. I'd have left the beach for Leonard (I grew up in a house on the beach, on a nude beach actually, in California and live there now).
Interesting how music provides us with a variety of visceral memories. I'm in CA too so I was at Santa Monica beaches in the 70s and 80s. And, yes, Laura was Leonard's backup singer in 1976. I didn't know that (Google verified).
I enjoyed Somewhere off the Coast of Maine, as I do all your books. What a pretty and comfortable looking blue dress. I worked with patients after knee surgery. The ones that followed the therapy exercises and kept moving the new knee through the pain seemed to do the best in the end. Good luck to Michael. Your new time travel romance book sounds intriguing. Just for fun, here's a title for you- PORTAL TO YOUR HEART. That's right- don't give up, be your best today, and better tomorrow. Chow
I knit, I sing, I grew up going to Scarborough beach, I read your first book, loved it and many that followed. Keep doing what you are doing and being who you are. You inspire me to be who I am
Thank you for normalizing revisions! Your notes look like mine and that gives me hope that I’m not just some crazy person who writes something brilliant, only to draw a line through it ten minutes later. Love your cat’s total look of judgement. Reading a fabulous book
Called “Starter Villain”. It sort of fell into my Kindle because I loved the cover. I can’t put it down and am highly recommending it to all of my cat loving friends. Wishing Michael a swift recovery. I had that done. Do the therapy, often! It’s been a game changer for me.
I hope you read it. I just finished and can say, don’t skip the bonus read at the end. It is delightful! Not my typical reading material but very well done and a nice change.
Love, love revising too! I’m now going through the copy edit for my memoir after a series of revisions with a developmental editor. You might not recognize it when I get through!!! Now what I need is a knitting project ❤️

Laura Branigan was after my teen years, but I love how everyone has a soundtrack to the beach!

I had a similar experience some years back. A friend had them play for his birthday party on the Cape!
That must have been amazing! How did the East Coasters react?
Went wild!

Just looked up Starter Villain and that cover is fantastic!
Here’s to revision!

Hermia being herself will never not be funny to me.
That should be the name of her memoir. Hermia Herself.
A bestseller if I've ever seen one.
I've found the only trouble with brioche stich, is trying to correct a mistake; I can't seem to get back into the stitch correctly...
Exactly! That’s why I ultimately had to frog so much.

I am so excited to read it!
