My heart feels full after reading this. All of it--the exciting and the fulfilling and the celebratory and the grieving--is what makes our lives, each day of them.
Ann, I have so appreciated your writing and substack and just wanted to leave a brief comment. Even though I don't know you, as a mother, my heart goes out to you. Sometimes I cry my eyes out just thinking about how I'd manage if my precious son died. I can only imagine your sadness and grief, and I just wanted you to know that I am thinking about you and sending comfort. Thank you for your vulnerability and willingness to share it.
Nanci Griffith! I have all of her cd’s and vinyl. Music, like food, connects us to our memories, both happy and heartbreaking. It’s so great that you can find your joy while still grieving. Happy Anniversary to you and Michael. Love the theme of revision as it relates to writing and life.
Just read this after juicing and zesting a bunch of lemons...and when I got to that part of your Substack post, I cried too. Love love love and more love to you, for you, and for all you do and write.
Beautifully said and oh so true about grief. I find comfort knowing I’m not alone in crying again and again when reminded. I’d love to participate in this class, but I’m away ne t week. 💖
Hi Ann...Your kitty looks just like our Daisy Mae... sweetness overload. Great TWA photo of you.
Crab Curry - yummy. Happy Birthday Sam and Annabelle's 21st birthday celebration! As always love the photo of you and Michael. And I can relate to your deep sadness for the loss of your dad and your beautiful Gracie. Loss of the people we love leaves us with a huge void. Feeling the grief reminds us of how much we love and miss them and that they are not forgotten. I'm looking forward to your class on Sunday!
I think that's the beautiful thing about music. I listen to certain songs when I'm happy and other songs when I'm sad and it really helps me dwell in those emotions. So powerful. Thank you for sharing your week....and happy anniversary!

Joy and sadness. Love. Loss. Reinvention. All there. Wonderful. And with such heart.
You know, my friend.
